4impact is committed to diversity and equal opportunities for female founders

10 July 2019

THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS. Under the name #FundRight4impact, together with 24 other progressive venture capital investors (VC's) and TechLeap.NL, has signed a joint initiative that should contribute to a more diverse startup ecosystem. We call on other VC’s to commit themselves to this goal by also signing the diversity statement.

#FundRight looks to tackle the concern about the lack of team diversity (gender, cultural, other) in the Dutch startup scene, including teams at venture capital funds, startups and other stakeholders. The #FundRight initiative initially focuses on increasing awareness and equality in respect of gender diversity. Recent research shows that only 1.6 % of all Dutch venture capital is invested in women-led start-ups and only 6,8% in mixed gender teams. This is despite evidence that diverse teams have a positive impact on performance.

We believe that female (co)founders need to be able to operate in an ecosystem where they can thrive and grow. Such an environment will encourage more women to take the step to become an entrepreneur. We recognize that we as VC’s can contribute to creating a more balanced ecosystem and can help to close the gap between the amount of growth capital raised by male and female founders of Dutch startups.

Statement

That is why 4impact, together with the other progressive VC’s, is committed to the following actions:

  • Within 3 years after this statement, we as 4impact, as well as within the management teams of our current and future portfolio companies, aim to have a staff consisting of 35% women. At 4impact, our investing team is already 50% women, well above the average.
  • A significant percentage of the companies in which we (co)invest, must be (co)founded by a woman.
  • We will be working on an annual report with the most important statistics on the gender diversity of Dutch venture capital investors and their portfolio companies. This report is made by TechLeap.NL.
  • We actively disseminate our statement, share our experiences and approaches with each other, with the ultimate goal of having all Dutch venture capital investors subscribed to #FundRight by 2022.

With these actions, we take a stand with regard to #FundRight and invite other parties to endorse the statement as well. Together we can make a difference in achieving a diverse startup ecosystem!
