We are excited to announce that Remko ten Barge, co-founder of NieuweStroom, the first energy supplier in the Netherlands to sell electricity at dynamic prices, is joining 4impact capital as Venture Partner.

Remko began his career in banking, spending six years at ABN AMRO and Deutsche Bank after graduating in finance from Tilburg University. In 2012 he co-founded NieuweStroom with Geert van Lümig around a simple idea: pass the real market price of energy straight through to customers, instead of locking them into fixed contracts with a risk premium built in.
Remko served as NieuweStroom's finance director in its early years and as CEO from 2017 until autumn 2024. Over that time the company expanded into Belgium, acquired the consumer supplier easyEnergy to serve households alongside its business customers, and stood by its customers through the energy crisis, introducing a new advance-payment model to protect them from price swings. He built NieuweStroom into a company of more than 250 people and more than 100 sales partners, serving over 45% of the Dutch dynamic energy market for SMEs, while dynamic tariffs, which few people understood when it launched, are on their way to becoming the norm.
Remko has since become one of the leading voices on dynamic energy in the Netherlands. As chair of the Vereniging van Dynamische Energieleveranciers, the Dutch association of dynamic energy suppliers, he has helped push for transparency across the market. This summer the association launched an open calculation tool and API that publish the indicative tariff for dynamic contracts every week, so consumers, comparison sites and the regulator can all check offers against the same source. He is also part of Flywheel Impact Coöperatie, supporting scale-ups, and mentors founders as a coach at ScaleUp Impact.
Remko has long been a trusted sparring partner to our team, bringing us energy tech dealflow and sharp market perspective. Several of our portfolio companies, including Etpa, Exnaton and Deftpower, are working on exactly the problems he spent more than a decade solving: making flexibility pay, getting businesses and households to use electricity when it is cheap and green, and building the market infrastructure behind it. As Venture Partner, he will bring his experience of building and scaling an energy company directly to our founders.
We are excited to have Remko join the team and look forward to him continuing to support our portfolio companies at 4impact. Welcome, Remko!
